Roman Shtorm found guilty on one of three charges

On August 6, the US District Court for the Southern District of New York issued a ruling against Tornado Cash co-founder and developer Roman Storm.

The jury found him guilty of «operating an unlicensed money-laundering business.» For this, Storm faces a maximum sentence of up to five years in prison. There was no unanimous verdict on the charges of conspiracy to commit money laundering and conspiracy to violate sanctions on North Korea. This was despite four days of deliberations. No date has yet been set for Storm’s final sentencing.

Blockchain Association urges Tornado Cash co-founder to appeal

Today’s conviction on Count 2 against Roman Shtorm is disappointing and sets a dangerous precedent for open source software developers. We encourage him to appeal and stand ready to support him in doing so, the organization said.

Storm has already said he plans to fight the charge, calling it “bullshit.” He also quoted Donald Trump, saying he will “fight, fight, fight.”
