A cryptocurrency investor lost $3 million due to phishing. He signed a malicious transaction on the blockchain without checking the contract address. One wrong click was enough to withdraw $3 million in USDT.
Someone fell victim to a phishing attack, signed a malicious transfer and lost 3,05 million USDT. Be vigilant, take care of yourself. One wrong click can empty your wallet. Never sign a transaction that you do not fully understand, — said experts from the blockchain analytics platform Lookonchain.

Like most investors, the victim likely checked the wallet address by comparing only the first and last few characters before transferring $3 million to the attacker. The difference would have been noticeable in the middle characters, which are often hidden on platforms for visual clarity.
On Sunday, another crypto investor lost $900,000 in a similar manner. Interestingly, this happened 458 days after the victim approved the fraudulent transaction.
In 2024, nearly 300 digital asset holders suffered phishing attacks, collectively losing more than $1 billion. At least three of these cases resulted in losses exceeding $100 million.
