₽1,25 billion invested in Bitcoin ETF futures in Russia
The central bank’s report for June 2025 indicated that Russians invested ₽1,25 billion in futures for bitcoin ETF.
On June 4, Moscow Stock Exchange launched trading in futures contracts on iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF (IBIT), created by the American company iShares. According to the Bank of Russia, the derivative is not very popular, because the amount of open positions was only ₽1,25 billion as of June 27. It is interesting that individuals mainly open longs of up to ₽500,000, while legal entities prefer to short.
Thanks to the growth of the Bitcoin exchange rate, IBIT shares have risen in price by 11,7% since June 4, so Russians who dared to create long positions on futures are counting their profits. Among members of the crypto community and experts, there is an opinion that the cryptocurrency rate will increase by at least 2,1% from the current value and reach $ 120,000 in July. In this regard, investors in BTC futures-ETF, will most likely earn even more profit.
The Bank of Russia also noted that futures are generally not considered to be popular investment instruments, as less than 1% of investors invest in them. Russians are most interested in foreign currency futures, with positions opened for ₽238,8 billion. Precious metal futures and Russian stock exchange indices are in second and third place by a wide margin.
